Guinea pigs can easily catch colds in the spring and fall. The first sign of the disease is the appearance of a cold. If the disease in guinea pigs is not cured in time, a complication can occur, up to pulmonary edema, which in the future very often leads to death. Of course, it is best to immediately show the animal to the veterinarian, but when this is not possible, do not wait for it to appear, but immediately start treating the pet yourself.
It is necessary
- -napkin;
- - streptocide powder;
- - ampicillin solution;
- - a decoction of herbs;
- -ascorbic acid;
- - glucose solution;
Instructions
Step 1
Place the sick animal separately from others. Make sure that there are no drafts in the room in which the guinea pig is located.
Step 2
Gently wipe the pig's nose with a napkin to remove any mucus and crusts.
Step 3
Blow streptocide powder into your pig's nose. Just be careful not to get the animal in the eyes. If this powder is not available, drip ampicillin solution into the pet's nose three or four times a day. To prepare the solution: dissolve the ampicillin capsule in 12 milliliters of boiled water.
Step 4
If, with a cold, the pig has not only a runny nose, but also a cough, then prepare an infusion of herbs for her. It can be made from a decoction of coltsfoot or nettle leaves. Give this infusion to your pet three times a day, a quarter of a teaspoon.
Step 5
Give your guinea pig more vitamins. Prepare a special potion for her that will strengthen the animal's immunity. Dilute 40% glucose solution with 0.2% ascorbic acid solution. Observe a 1: 1 ratio. Give the mixture for no more than six days at the rate of 0.75 to 2.20 ml, depending on the weight and age of your mumps.
Step 6
Expand the diet of the sick animal. Add nettle leaves (both fresh and dried), beets, carrots and cabbage to your meal. Serve green peas as a treat. Offer your pet the following vitamin treat: 1 milliliter of glucose + 1 milliliter of ascorbic acid and mix it all with one milliliter of water. This mixture can be given to the animal directly from the syringe.
