Instructions

Step 1

Not only a special shed can serve as a room for quails. It can be a warmed balcony, an extra room, a corner in a private house. The room temperature should always be maintained in the range of 16-22˚С, and the humidity should be at least 60%. The room should be in a quiet place so that neither the barking of the dog nor the crying of the child frighten the birds. Quails are highly stressed. Their egg production decreases with constant noise. Also, there shouldn't be a lot of light. The dim light can shine for 14 hours. This will be enough for them.

Step 2

A cage for 20 birds can be a galvanized mesh welded onto a frame with a bottom size of 40 * 50. The height of the cage will be about 40 cm. Place a tray with paper on the bottom of the cage, so it will be easier to remove it. Do not throw out bird droppings - this is an excellent fertilizer for indoor flowers. If you clean up the quails daily, then there will be no unpleasant smell. Hang a deep trough from the outside. This will prevent the birds from scattering food. For swimming, sand can be poured into the cage.

Step 3

Their egg production depends on the feed of the quails. Therefore, do not skimp on quality food, especially since these birds eat little - only 30 grams per day. Often feed consists of a grain mixture - milled millet, corn, wheat and barley. Small pieces of stale bread can also be added to the feed. This mixture must be poured with water and given in the form of porridge. Periodically, you can add cottage cheese, sour milk or fish to the porridge. Quails are also happy to eat vegetables grated on a coarse grater. In summer, birds should be treated with greens - clover, nettles, vegetable tops. Chalk, shells and eggshells will be beneficial for the bird's body. Don't forget to water the birds. To do this, purchase special drinkers for birds. The main thing is to have water constantly.

Step 4

If you want to keep birds only for eggs, then a male is not necessary. Quails mature quickly, they begin to rush at the age of 40-50 days. They will delight you with eggs for a whole year without interruption, regardless of summer or winter outside.

You will need a male to breed quail. It will cover 5-6 females. Purchase an incubator for hatching chicks. If you want the quails to hatch their own eggs, then you will have to arrange convenient and comfortable nests for them. The bottom of the nest should be soft to prevent the female from crushing the egg.
