When it's hot outside, a person sweats intensively and generates excess heat through sweat, cooling the body. The dog has practically no sweat glands on the body, they are located only on the tip of the nose and the pads of the paws. Therefore, the heat especially affects those of them who have thick long hair and makes them open their mouths, sticking out their tongue, abundantly moistened with saliva, in order to increase the area and intensity of evaporation of moisture from the body. Mexican and Peruvian hairless dogs practically do not stick out their tongues, even in the hottest. Even that slight evaporation from the surface of the body is enough for them, because the wool does not interfere with them. In addition to the protruding tongue, the dog uses rapid breathing to enhance heat exchange, so the open mouth, from which the wet tongue hangs down, works like an ordinary household radiator. By acting constantly, it reduces the risk of overheating the animal. The more often the animal breathes, the more intensive the cooling process takes place. At the same time, with increased physical or emotional stress, the dog behaves the same way - its internal temperature rises and it sticks out its tongue, lowering its body temperature. You should take this feature of your pet into account when buying and choosing a muzzle. There must be enough free space in it so that the dog can calmly and freely stick out its tongue and lower its body temperature, even while walking and in full ammunition. Take into account these characteristics of the dog's body and try not to walk with the dog in the heat, provide it in this period of comfortable coolness. If you are walking with her in an open area, be sure to bring a bottle of water for your dog. In the heat, choose morning and evening hours for walking, when it is cool enough. If possible, walk near the pond so that the dog can always run into the water and swim.
