The origin of the Russian blue cat breed is not exactly known. But what is known from history is that the cats of this breed were brought from Arkhangelsk to Great Britain by sailors - then these cats were called Arkhangelsk cats. The modern name - Russian blue - appeared in 1939 in Great Britain. It is believed that Catherine II herself was engaged in breeding cats of this breed, but this is not a historical fact, but rather a legend.
Appearance
The body of cats of the Russian blue breed is of medium size, graceful and quite muscular. The neck is long, slender, the physique is generally harmonious. The head is wedge-shaped, short, the pads with a mustache on the muzzle are clearly outlined and protrude forward. The ears are large and pointed. The nose is of medium length, straight, almond-shaped eyes, also round. Set wide apart and bright green.
The paws of the representatives of this breed are long. By the British standard the brushes are oval and the pads are blue; by the American standard the brushes are round and the pads are pink. The tail is long, thick at the base and tapering towards the tip.
Wool and color
The cats of the breed are Russian blue short hair, dense and thick, soft, velvety to the touch and slightly springy. The color is uniform blue. Kittens may show striping, but over time it disappears, but if spots or stripes are noticeable in an adult cat, because of which the color cannot be called uniform, these are obvious disadvantages. The tips of the guard hairs are silvery, which gives the coat a shiny silvery sheen.
Character
Russian blues are calm, balanced. They are loyal to their masters, affectionate, sociable. They love to play, arranging a real hunt for candy wrappers, all kinds of threads and insects. The voice of cats of this breed is quiet, the purr is barely audible at all.
