Playing with electric wires is perhaps one of the most dangerous entertainments for kittens. Unfortunately, many owners have to deal with this problem. How to wean a kitten from gnawing wires?
Instructions
Step 1
Check the kitten's health. According to veterinarians, the desire to chew on wires may be directly related to his health. Make sure that the kitten has no parasites - take the appropriate tests. If they are positive, use a medication that your veterinarian recommends. Help your pet to cope with a nuisance that undermines its health.
Buy vitamins for kittens, which include taurine and iron - perhaps the baby simply does not have enough vitamins or minerals.
Check with your veterinarian and change feed if necessary.
Step 2
Try to play with the kitten as much as possible. At least 20-30 minutes a day. Perhaps the baby is simply over-energized and is trying to get your attention.
Make sure the kitten has a lot of toys.
Step 3
Try to keep all wires out of your pet's reach. For these purposes, you can use special plastic boxes or corrugated tubes. If there are several wires nearby, tie them together so that they do not wobble and thus attract the attention of the kitten. If possible, rearrange the furniture, blocking the cable that cannot be hidden with it. Remember that playing with wires can be deadly for your pet.
Step 4
Treat the cable with a special "anti-gnaw" available from pet stores. In the absence of special preparations, you can rub the electrical wire with an orange or lemon peel. Aloe vera juice or a mixture of dishwashing liquid and hot red pepper will also work.
Step 5
Give your kitten special treats that you can "sharpen" your teeth - they are sold in almost any pet store.
Step 6
Firmly stop any attempts to chew on the wire. As “deterrent” measures, you can use a rolled-up newspaper or a spray bottle with water. The latter is especially effective.
