Try to time the hatching of turkeys by the end of May. Warm weather is setting on the street, a vegetable garden has been planted, and there is time to tinker with the chicks.

Instructions

Step 1

Although turkeys are diligent hens and caring mothers, always watch how the turkeys hatch. Sometimes heavy and awkward can trample the baby.

After the end of the withdrawal, all the turkeys can be safely admitted to the turkey.

Step 2

Start feeding chicks no later than 10 hours after birth. First spread the newspapers on the floor, then the burlap in two layers. Firstly, turkey poults do not part their legs, and secondly, they have tender beaks, and if they knock them on something hard, then they get sick. Sprinkle food and tap on the floor with your fingers to make them peck.

Step 3

Put water (slightly pink from potassium permanganate) in a flat drinking bowl - a saucer with a half-liter jar inverted in the center. Strongly brewed (drunk) tea can also be given.

Step 4

On the first day, usually feed with a hard-boiled egg rubbed through a sieve and fresh low-fat cottage cheese. On the third day of life, add finely chopped nettles, green onions or garlic and grated carrots to them. Turkeys need to feed green onions and garlic during the day. If fed in the evening, it will cause severe thirst and the young will not sleep at night.

Step 5

A week after hatching, start giving the turkey poults boiled millet. First with an egg, then without it. From this age, include in the menu a mash based on sour milk (or meat broth) mixed with crushed wheat, rolled oats, wheat bran.

Step 6

Greens are also well eaten (cabbage leaves, beets, garlic stalks, nettles, alfalfa, clover, plantain, woodlice; a herb with a bitter taste is especially useful: yarrow, dandelion, thistle), finely chopped and mixed with yogurt, mixed feed and additive 10-12 drops of fish oil on the chick. It is good to alternate fish oil with vitamins Trivit and Tetravit (I dilute 100 ml in 1 liter of vegetable oil and add 1 teaspoon to the feed for 12-15 turkeys).

Step 7

Give vitamins for two weeks, then take a break for the same time and give only food and herbs. And to strengthen the bones, add dried and ground egg shells or bone meal into the mash. To regulate digestion, be sure to put them in a bowl of sand.

Step 8

The hatched chicks need to be provided with a dry and warm place. Therefore, for the first two weeks, do not let the poults go for a walk (take them out only in a box and under glass). For up to three months, literally protect them from rain. If it happens that the chick gets wet, take it to the house, dip its legs in vodka, push 1-3 (depending on age) black peppercorns down the throat and onto a warm stove. Give weak turkey poults glucose and ascorbic acid dissolved in water.
