Turtles need special attention, they are silent and will not be able to express their pain if they get sick. If you begin to notice that the turtle is showing unusual lethargy, take a closer look at the pet. Their health is not bad, but it is also influenced by many factors. For example, drafts, cold temperatures, can cause colds, sore eyes. It can also be caused by foreign body damage. Turtle eye diseases can be caused by many reasons, but the symptoms are the same - inflammation, swollen eyelids, redness of the mucous membrane.
Instructions
Step 1
If inflammation of the eyes is accompanied by discharge from the nasal openings, most likely the turtle needs not only to treat the eyes, but to treat it for a cold. Eliminate drafts, place the turtle in a warm place, such as a box near a heating appliance, cover it and, if possible, turn on an infrared lamp. You can use daily baths with a solution of furacilin or furadonin.
Step 2
If your pet's condition does not improve, use a cough ointment containing eucalyptus or menthol essential oils. To treat your turtle, you can give it a steam bath. Dissolve the ointment in hot water in a wide container.
Step 3
Place the turtle in a colander over this container, covering the colander with a towel, for about an hour. Be careful with hot water, you cannot let the temperature rise too much, but also make sure that the water does not cool down. The steam bath can be repeated if necessary.
Step 4
If, even after several procedures, the turtle cannot be cured, it is most likely that its cold is of a viral nature, and you cannot do without a visit to the veterinarian.
Step 5
It is a misconception that land turtles do not need water at all. The disease can be caused by simple pollution, in this case, the turtle's eyes need to be treated with daily warm baths (for 2-3 hours) and eye drops, which should be instilled directly under the eyelid.
Step 6
Turtle eye disease can be caused by a lack of vitamin A. Preventing the disease is easier than treating it. The turtle needs feed containing carotene - carrots, liver, milk, egg yolk.
Step 7
To treat the eyes from inflammation caused by vitamin deficiency, you need injections of a pure vitamin. An antibiotic ointment can be applied directly to the eyes. In this case, it is better to consult a doctor for prescriptions.
