Instructions

Step 1

Panophthalmitis is an inflammation of the membranes of the eye that occurs due to the penetration of pathogenic bacteria under the cornea. At the first stage of the disease, only the lower eyelid of the animal is affected, then clouding of the eye appears. If left untreated, the eye can go blind. For the treatment of panophthalmitis, ointments and antibiotic eye drops are used.

Step 2

Swelling of the eyelids in red-eared turtles can appear due to a lack of vitamin A or due to dirty water. Edema can be unilateral or bilateral, complete or incomplete. This disease causes severe discomfort in the animal, the turtle can often rub its eyes, which is why their condition only worsens. Before starting treatment, you should rinse the terrarium and change the water. The eyes of the animal should be washed with a 3% boric acid solution or chamomile decoction 2 times a day and eye drops, for example, albucid, should be instilled. In severe cases, tetracycline ointment can be used.

Step 3

Conjunctivitis occurs in red-eared turtles due to streptococcal and staphylococcal infections. In this case, the animal's conjunctival sacs and eyelids become inflamed. Conjunctivitis is treated with ointments with chloramphenicol or tetracycline. With severe inflammation, antibiotics are prescribed by mouth.

Step 4

For any eye disease, the turtle needs a multivitamin supplement. The best option is the veterinary "Eleovit". You can also give "Intravit" and "Multivit". The rest of the vitamin complexes are not suitable due to the content of vitamin D2, which is toxic to turtles. Do not forget to feed your pet with tweezers - eye diseases often make the turtle almost blind, and it cannot find food.
