Nowadays, ostrich breeding is one of the most profitable areas of farming. This is due, on the one hand, to the simplicity of growing these birds, and on the other hand, to the demand in the market for ostrich eggs, meat, skin and feathers.

Step 1
You can start breeding ostriches in several ways: by buying eggs, chicks or adult birds. For beginners, the most preferable option is the purchase of chicks. This avoids both the risks associated with the purchase of unfertilized eggs and the hassle of raising young. Also, the advantages of buying chicks include their lower cost compared to adults and the ease of forming an ostrich herd (ratio of males and females).
Step 2
When breeding ostriches, attention should be paid to such aspects of their maintenance as: - aviaries where birds are kept;
- pasture paddocks for walking;
- hygiene at the ostrich farm;
- lighting, ventilation, temperature regime of keeping birds of different ages;
- quality of feed and water. Compliance with the necessary norms and recommendations in these areas contributes to more successful breeding of ostriches.
Step 3
As a rule, there are 2-3 females per male. This combination is an ostrich family. It is allowed to keep several families in one room. Ostriches reach sexual maturity at 1, 5–2 years: at this age, females begin to lay eggs. On average, one female lays up to 60 eggs per year, of which 75-80% are fertilized. On the farm, it is more efficient to use incubators for hatching chicks - this allows you to increase the percentage of healthy chicks hatched.

Although the initial stages of organizing an ostrich farm require significant investments, in the future this business is profitable and promising, and a well-established farm will require no more effort from you than any other poultry farm.
