Quails are domestic birds that are kept only in cages. They are deprived of the opportunity to get food on their own, and therefore they need to receive adequate nutrition. Quail feed must necessarily consist of three main ingredients: protein, vitamin, grain, plus gravel, shells and water. An excess or shortage of at least one of the components can adversely affect the health of the quail.

Step 1
Quail can eat a wide variety of food. The main rule is that the feed must be fresh, not moldy, and free of harmful impurities. If dry food is used, it can be poured into the trough with a small supply.
Step 2
Any wet food should not remain in the trough for more than two hours. Otherwise, it may turn sour, and as a result, the bird will be poisoned. In addition, it is better to mix wet food with some kind of cereal to get a crumbly consistency. Liquid, sticky, viscous food very often clogs the nostrils, beak and feathers of birds.
Step 3
The most suitable feed for quail is compound feed for laying hens. Experts recommend using it. Broiler feed is slightly worse, although it can also be fed to quails.
Step 4
From homemade, the most acceptable for quail will be a mixture of various crushed cereals, for example, barley, semolina, oatmeal, rice chaff, etc. Add ground white bread croutons, as well as vitamins and protein products.
Step 5
The protein portion should be about one fifth of the total diet. It can be boiled fish or fish meal, boiled meat or meat and bone meal, boiled eggs or egg powder, milk powder or cottage cheese.
Step 6
As food additives, you can give ready-made mixtures for quail or laying hens. They can be purchased at a pet store or at a feed store. The dosage is written on the package. If you do not have the opportunity to purchase special vitamins, you can purchase multivitamins at a regular pharmacy, for example, Kvadevit, Gendevit or Undevit. Crush them and mix with feed, just not more than one tablet for ten quails a day.
Step 7
In addition to vitamins, birds must be given minerals. Make a special small feeder for them. And always fill it with crushed eggshells. In addition to the shell, you can give ground shells of river, sea or land mollusks or school chalk (or even better, special feed). Fine, clean gravel can be added.
