One of the prerequisites for transporting pets on the train is the presence of a special container or bag in which the pet can rest all the way. Dogs, cats, birds and other small pets are allowed to be transported on trains of any category. In addition, the weight of the pet is not added to the weight of the carry-on baggage.
General rules for transporting pets on the train
Firstly, small pets (birds, hamsters, rats, guinea pigs, cats, dogs) are transported on trains of all categories, without exception. However, their own weight is not considered as carry-on baggage.
Secondly, the carriage of pets is allowed in all carriages, except for SV and carriages with increased comfort.
Thirdly, animals transported on the train must be in special containers, boxes, cages or baskets. These containers should easily fit into the carry-on baggage area.
Fourthly, every pet must have a veterinary certificate and a receipt of the type "Baggage in the hands of a passenger". To receive this receipt, you need to pay for one piece of baggage with a total weight of up to 20 kg at the station.

The task of any passenger transporting a pet by train is to take care of a special container for the pet in advance. It is necessary to choose a product that is suitable for the animal in many respects: size, material of manufacture, the presence of a drinker, additional pockets, the ability to assemble and disassemble, etc.
As practice shows, collapsible carriers with wheels have proven themselves best of all. Such containers allow the animal to feel the most comfortable: during the trip, the pet can turn in different directions, as well as get up. This will allow the animal not to sit all the way in one position, but to move.
Some carriers recommend getting a special portable aviary for a safer trip, since transporting large and aggressive dogs also requires certain rules. This will prevent other passengers and train personnel from feeling fear and discomfort. In this case, people will not be afraid that an aggressive dog will bite them at the wrong time.
If your pet is not used to such transportation, then it must be accustomed to them in advance. This is done three weeks before the trip. The animal is accustomed to a container, a bag or an aviary. To do this, future luggage must be placed in the house in a cozy atmosphere, put there a bedding that the pet loves most of all. It is recommended to throw some delicacy inside the luggage.
Dogs need to be muzzled. Words like "My dog does not bite at all" are not an argument for controllers and guides. It doesn't matter whether the dog is kind or angry, but the muzzle is an indispensable attribute of the rules for transporting pets on the train.
It is necessary to draw up the relevant documents. Transportation of animals within the CIS countries is limited by veterinary certificate No. 1. It must contain proof of rabies vaccination, made no later than 1 month before transportation. Such a certificate is valid for three days, therefore, it must be issued immediately before the trip.
