Sometimes the cat's behavior raises some suspicions in the owner: is she sick? Measuring your temperature will help you make the right decision whether to call a veterinarian or not yet. Knowing how to measure your pet's temperature is very important.
Instructions
Step 1
If you are afraid, calm down first. To measure your cat's temperature, take a regular medical thermometer. It is best to use an electronic, rectal thermometer. You can also use a digital and mercury thermometer. Do not use different test strips, infrared thermometers, or stickers.
Step 2
Don't judge a cat's body temperature by the moisture and warmth of its nose. This opinion is wrong. Observe your pet more closely, you will find the following: the cat's nose is always dry and warm during sleep. When it is very hot or the animal is nervous, the nose becomes hot. If you have an older cat, her nose is constantly dry and warm, as the glands begin to malfunction and do not produce secretions to moisturize the nose.
Step 3
You can only reliably measure the temperature in the anus. Prepare a thermometer, for this grease it with any cream. Take the diaper and wrap the cat so that it is in a calm position. Raise the tail and carefully, without sudden movements, push the thermometer into the rectum. Press the thermometer gently to one side. Hold for 2 - 3 minutes and see the result. If you are measuring with an electronic thermometer, then hold it until you hear a beep.
Step 4
You can use the help of a second person if the animal is aggressive or very nervous. It will be easiest for you to measure the temperature of a standing pet, but you can also lay or put your cat. If this is your first time doing this, try not to worry. The cat will sense your fear, which can make measuring difficult.
Step 5
For cats, the normal temperature is 38, 0 - 39, 0 C, and the increased temperature is more than 39, 0 degrees. If the pet is nervous or overexcited, then its temperature may be higher than the specified norm, but still should not exceed 39.5 C. After the procedure, wash the thermometer with soapy water in warm water, and then wipe it well with alcohol. Be sure to praise your pet for bravery. If, nevertheless, you are not able to measure the temperature yourself, call the veterinarian, let him show you and explain how to do it correctly.
