Keeping an aquarium at home is an enjoyable experience. But sometimes problems arise, one of which is the jumping of the fish out of the water. You can stop attempts to leave the natural environment if you study and eliminate the causes of this phenomenon.
When the fish are uncomfortable in the aquarium, they begin to behave uneasily and jump out. This behavior is not typical for aquatic life. There can be many reasons: tightness, incompatibility of fish, fright, bright light, poor water, diseases and parasites. The fish should be free to swim and turn around easily in the aquarium. We need an optimal volume of water and a favorable thermal regime. Reinforce the lid tightly so that the fish cannot move it when jumping. Populate the surface with floating plants to create an additional obstacle effect. If you have large fish, and the aquarium is not very spacious, create the necessary living conditions for them or have smaller pets. If you have selected the fish taking into account the temperament and in accordance with the required volume of water for each individual, it remains to exclude other factors. Check the lighting. If the power of the light lamp does not correspond to the volume of the aquarium, or rather exceeds the recommended value, the bright light must be removed - and the fish will become calmer. Try not to scare them when you open the lid of the aquarium or place a net over them. They try to dodge and jump find a way to “escape.” If the hygiene of the aquarium is not observed, the water in it deteriorates. With improper feeding, the fish do not have time to eat the offered food and its remnants decompose, forming a fetid odor. In addition to food debris, surplus plants and algae create an unfavorable environment. All this leads to the fact that the supply of water with oxygen is deteriorating and the fish are desperately seeking to leave the uncomfortable place. Replace one third of the dirty water with clean water and do the same after a few days. If fish are selected with a different allowable pH value of the medium for them, they will also jump out. Measure the pH and ensure the optimal acidity of the water for specific fish species. If you have properly equipped the aquarium and selected its inhabitants correctly, you need to maintain optimal living conditions in it. By observing fish, you can always tell by their behavior signs of discontent. Keep the aquarium clean and its inhabitants will be happy with their home and will not want to leave it.
