The causes of poisoning in dogs can be very different. This is both low-quality food and stale food. Some owners may not notice how their pet picks up a sausage skin or a herring head during a walk. All of these can easily cause gastrointestinal upset in a dog.
First, assess the severity of the poisoning. If a dog vomits first with food, and then with mucus, bile or blood, it has colic, diarrhea, periods of anxiety are replaced by periods of apathy - this is acute poisoning. In this case, immediately show the animal to the veterinarian, who will prescribe the correct treatment depending on how your animal has been poisoned.
If it is not possible to go to the vet immediately, flush the dog's stomach. To induce vomiting, give the animal a large amount of water or a weak solution of potassium permanganate (it should be pale pink). To do this, tilt the dog's head back and insert a syringe or syringe with water between the molars (of course, the syringe must be without a needle). To induce vomiting, you can give the animal a tincture of ipecacuanha root, press your fingers on the root of the tongue, or, in extreme cases, give a spoonful of mustard. After that, give the animal petroleum jelly - it coats the walls of the stomach and prevents the absorption of most poisons. Never substitute vegetable oil for vaseline oil - it has the exact opposite effect! And take the dog to the veterinary clinic as soon as possible.
If the dog is not acutely poisoned, you can give him the usual activated charcoal, which is available in every first-aid kit, at the rate of one tablet per ten kilograms of the animal's weight. Also, in case of poisoning, Enterosgel helps well. For a couple of days, the animal can be put on a diet. Nevertheless, it is worth consulting with a veterinarian, because many dangerous diseases at first may look like a banal poisoning.
It happens that dogs eat the poison, carefully left by the communal services for the rats. If this happened to your pet, after two or three hours he will have paralysis of the respiratory organs - the animal suffocates, foam comes out of the mouth, legs give way, convulsions and vomiting begin. In this case, the dog needs to urgently enter vitamin B6 based on the weight of the animal and immediately consult a veterinarian. Otherwise, death occurs in 4-5 hours.
