Dachshund is a hunting dog. But this does not mean that from the first days the puppy should hunt for you or your household, or look for burrows in the house in order to get a tasty bite. Pathfinder skills are best practiced in neutral territory. For the rest, raising a dachshund puppy is almost the same as raising dogs of other breeds.

Step 1
Pay attention to the specific structure of the dog's skeleton. Take the puppy with both hands on both sides, or with one hand on the chest and the other on the seat. Do not carry your puppy by grabbing it by the front paws, as such a grip can permanently disfigure the delivery of the baby's limbs.
Step 2
Since from 2 months the dachshund's spine begins to stretch, and the muscles are still weak, feed the puppy in tiny portions, but often. Don't let your puppy stand on its hind legs until at least 9-10 months old. Until the skeleton and muscles are completely formed, take the puppy for a walk in your arms. When descending the stairs on your own, the back of the dachshund may sag.
Step 3
To develop muscle, train your puppy to learn to climb. Returning from a walk, he must learn to fearlessly climb the stairs. Of course, at first this may require tasty complementary foods, but after 3-4 days the dachshund will develop a reflex, and it will stop giving in before going up the stairs.
Step 4
Choose a place for the puppy away from the central heating batteries, but without drafts. If it is not possible to build a booth house for the dachshund, lay a rug or mattress on a small elevation (10 cm). Cover it with oilcloth.
Step 5
Train your puppy to keep the apartment clean. To do this, prepare a stack of old newspapers or oilcloth, as well as a tray. Watch your puppy closely. As soon as your dog starts looking for a place to crouch and empty his bowels or bladder, carefully transfer him to the litter box. You can't punish a little bungler: it happens that up to a year old puppies do not control their natural needs. Gradually, the puppy will learn that oilcloth or newspapers are not the worst option for their beloved owners.
Step 6
Immediately start accustoming the puppy to the nickname, place, collar. Later - to a leash and walking at the foot. But for the correct formation of hunting skills, the dachshund must undergo an attachment at a special station in 7-9 months.
Step 7
Despite the fact that the dachshund mainly hunts for animals living in burrows, it is first introduced to an animal (usually a fox) on the surface. As soon as the puppy begins to show interest in the intended prey, start training directly in a specially constructed "burrow". It will be quite enough if for the first time the puppy follows the animal in several circles.
Step 8
Gradually accustom her to the ability to navigate underground and drive the fox out of the "cauldron" - an extension in the hole where the animal usually hides. Do not allow direct contact with the training animal, the maximum that the puppy should be able to do after being baited is to drive the fox out of the hole. Training should be carried out regularly, at least 1-2 times a week.
