As a rule, cockatiel parrots are acquired at a young age, when it is almost impossible to establish gender. But there are a number of techniques that allow at a certain time to identify the sexual characteristics of chicks. Experienced bird watchers are well aware of this.
Instructions
Step 1
Wait until the chick is three and a half months old. At this time, males begin to sing loudly, practicing vocals for two weeks. They should be marked immediately, since there will be no other signs for up to six months.
Step 2
At the age of six to eight months, cockatiel parrots molt. As a result, the plumage of males acquires brighter color tones, and females are recognized by more rounded body contours and a calm temperament. But often and at such moments it is very difficult to find out the sex of the Corella.
Step 3
You can reliably distinguish a male from a female when they reach the age of one year. Males become real handsome men with a bright yellow fluffy tuft on their heads and dark pointed wings marked with white ovals. The body of the parrot acquires a pearl-steel hue, orange specks stand out on the cheeks.
The plumage of females is dusty gray. Only on the inner side of the wings can you notice light yellow spots and stripes. Cheeks are less ruddy than that of males.
Step 4
At the moment, there are several color variations of Corella parrots - white, pearl, yellow, variegated and others. Depending on this, each species has its own characteristics that determine gender. For example, it is possible to find out the sex of a white cockatiel parrot before the first molt. During this period, females have a slightly yellowish plumage, occasionally the wings are dotted with light specks. Males often have a more pronounced blush on their cheeks.
Step 5
Try to find out the sex of the cockatiel parrot by behavior. As a rule, "boys" are more mobile and noisy, they often like to bang on something with their beak. "Girls" are calmer, they like to sleep.
