It is necessary

  • - an aquarium;
  • - food;
  • - daylight lamp;
  • - filter;
  • - pebbles or coarse sand;
  • - plants.

Instructions

Step 1

Special maintenance is required only when breeding selective species of fish. For pedigree guppies, you need an aquarium that holds at least 50 liters of water. You also need to take care of the acidity level of the water (about 7 pH). For common types of guppies, it is enough to take tap water and hold it for a day (you can pass it through a household filter). The optimal water temperature is 24 ° C, if the temperature is below 18 ° C, then there is a high probability that guppies will catch diseases. The high temperature leads to a shortened life cycle and shredding of individuals.

Step 2

Pour small pebbles or coarse river sand at the bottom of the aquarium, place several bushes of unpretentious plants behind which fish like to hide. Guppy is a very active aquarium fish that can jump out of the water. Therefore, it is recommended to leave the height of the side at least 7 centimeters above the water level, close the container with a lid. Combine sunlight and artificial lighting throughout the day. Pedigree guppy species require the installation of special devices for aeration and water filtration.

Step 3

Feeding guppies is an important consideration in keeping fish. Individuals should not be given too much food, as this leads to its settling at the bottom, from which the water quickly deteriorates. Adult guppies need to be fed once a day, in small portions and at a specific time. Fish grow well from live food, so you should give them bloodworms, daphnia, rotifers and mosquito larvae. The addition of modern feeds containing vitamins and minerals will allow you to maintain the brightness of the guppy color. Once a week, you need to arrange a fasting day for the guppy.

Step 4

Guppy breeding takes place without creating special conditions. Females and males acquire the ability to reproduce from four months of age. By the shape of the female's abdomen, it is possible to determine the approach of labor (the abdomen becomes angular). Place the female in a separate container. When the fry are born, the guppies can be returned to the general aquarium. The fry should be kept separately for some time until they grow up, because the guppies can eat their own babies.

Step 5

Clean the aquarium once a week. In this case, it is advisable to remove the remains of feed and replace a third of the water with fresh water. The added water must be of the same hardness and temperature as the main water. The life span of a guppy is on average three years. For the prevention of guppy diseases, table salt should be added to the aquarium (a teaspoon per 10 liters of water). Remember that cleanliness is the key to health, so cleaning the aquarium is a must for keeping guppies.
