Fin rot in guppies is a bacterial disease that affects many fish species. If it is detected in time, then it is successfully treated at home.
Fin rot in fish appears for many reasons. Decreased immunity in fish, the appearance of new inhabitants of the aquarium, poor-quality water replacement - all this contributes to the spread of fin rot. If the disease manifests itself due to poor fish keeping, then conditions should be changed for the better. If the guppy is affected by rot, then it is worth starting to treat the fish.
Signs of defeat
The fish have pale, thin and frayed fins, they often tend to fall off. It is necessary to start treatment at a time when the fins begin to fade, otherwise the fin rot will move to the body of the fish, and the fish will die from this.
Cloudy eyes. Fin rot enters the aquarium through food or when new infected individuals are introduced. Poorly purified water is an ideal environment for bacteria to multiply, which further leads to rot. The water should be changed in the aquarium by at least 20% weekly.
A decrease in resistance (resistance) to diseases in fish is manifested with a decrease in water temperature. This promotes the proliferation of bacteria that cause fin rot.
Treatment
This disease is very well treated, the main thing is to take all measures in time.
If sick inhabitants of the aquarium are found, it is necessary to replace the water by 30% and bring the water temperature back to normal, ideal for keeping. If the guppy "lives" with other fish, it should be deposited in another container during the treatment. Medical treatment is carried out both for all inhabitants of the aquarium and individually.
Dissolve 1 tablet of chloramphenicol in 20 liters of water. Previously, "Levomycetin" must be ground into powder and mixed with a little water. The medicine must be poured into the fish tank. This procedure must be carried out for 3 days. At the same time, a water change should be done, with the addition of medicine until the fish is completely cured.
Streptocide treatment. It is necessary to dissolve 1.5 g of powder in ten liters of water and pour into the aquarium. Keep the guppy in the solution for no more than 30 minutes. This procedure is carried out 1-2 times a day, 4-5 days.
Salt baths. Dissolve 3 teaspoons of salt in 6-7 liters of water and keep the fish for 20 minutes. Use edible salt, never iodized.
Also, treatment can be carried out using drugs such as "Bicillin 5", "Furacillin", "Biseptol".
When the fin rot cure has come, it is necessary to repeat the course in 5-7 days in order to strengthen the result. Usually, the fins, after a lesion and timely treatment started, are restored slowly, it all depends on the condition of the fish and on the circumstances of its maintenance. Fin rot will not develop in aquariums that are kept in perfect condition.
