Pretend to leave. You can hide behind a tree, a corner of the house. Whatever the dog is busy, your leaving will scare him, and he will certainly run to look for you. Under no circumstances should you catch up with the playing animal. You won't catch a dog like that, but your friend will decide that you have joined his game and will run even further.
