Interesting representatives of primates are koats, otherwise they are called spider monkeys. Their habitat is quite extensive - the mountain forests of the Andes, Mexico, Colombia, and koats also live along the Amazon River.

Coats prefer to live and be in old forests and where people do not exist. Living in rain forests, animals contribute to their development. By eating plants, they are seed distributors. According to the behavior of koats, ecologists determine the ecological state of the territory.

There are several species and subspecies of arachnid monkeys. For example, Koata Joffua, Koata-mestizo, Barnacle-cheeked Koata, Black-faced Koata, Koata Chamek, Colombian Koata, Black Koata. These animals have a very strong and prehensile tail, which is used by the koat not only to hang in the trees. Animals can use their tail to pick up a variety of items.

Due to their sensitivity to the adverse effects of the external environment, koats are on the verge of extinction. Human intervention in the life of the forest affects the life of monkeys, destroys their homes, because koats live in a forest canopy and do not move on the ground.

They feed on fruits. As many forests are cleared and thinned, it becomes difficult for arachnid monkeys to move in search of food.

Koats live in groups of 10–40 individuals, equipping their "houses" in the trees.

The extinction of the population is facilitated by the low breeding rate of these primates. Sexual maturity occurs at about five years old, the female gives birth to only one calf every 4–5 years. Another danger for koats is hunters, who catch them and send them to zoos and hotels for the entertainment of tourists, while the cubs are taken away and the females are killed.

Recently, koats have begun to breed in captivity to try to restore their numbers.
