The African continent is inhabited by many different types of living creatures. Civets are considered one of the rare African animals. These are predators of the wyver family of the genus African civets.
African civets are carnivorous mammals with a body size of up to 58 cm, with a tail ranging from 46 to 62 cm in length. The weight of the animal is about 2 kg. Outwardly, the African civet looks like a cat with short legs and round ears. The coat is gray-brown in color with various brownish shades, which has darker spots on the body, and is stiff at the ends. The tail is slightly darker than the main body color. The paws have scent glands, and there is also a gland with a strong odor in the lower abdomen.
African civets live in Equatorial Africa in the forests. They prefer to be active at night, spend the day high on the branches. Animals are solitary, or stray into territorial groups, for example, females with cubs. They protect their territory and do not allow adults to enter it.
The diet of civets includes beetles, birds, eggs, bats, carrion, animals visit chicken coops, consume plant fruits and fruits. They love coffee beans, which is used to make a very expensive coffee drink - from beans that have not been digested by animals.
Locals keep civets as pets - they are happy to destroy rodents.
Cubs of civets are born mainly in October or May, which coincides with the wet season. In a year, civets have from 2 to 3 litters, the number of cubs in them is from one to four. The female hatches cubs in burrows. At birth, the cubs have wool, on the fifth day they move freely, and after 2.5 weeks they leave the den. Already at two months, the cubs find their own food.
