Winter is a difficult period in the life of wild animals. And not only for those who spend it on their feet, but also for those who hibernate. Severe frosts and a significant reduction in food, coupled with forest hunters, lead to the fact that not all animals manage to survive this time. But many of them also give birth to cubs at this difficult time.

Some animals go into a saving hibernation in winter. The main condition for this is a large amount of subcutaneous fat and a cozy, well-protected den. A striking representative of such a pastime is the bear. In the fall, he begins to eat a lot, so that later he can sleep peacefully without feeling hungry. Otherwise, a hungry and very angry bear, a connecting rod, begins to stagger through the forest in winter, which it is better not to come across on the way. A small depression in the ground at the roots of trees, a natural cave or a ravine, into which it drags moss, leaves, grass, and then covers everything with spruce branches, can serve as a den for this beast.

Female bears give birth to cubs in January-February, which are fed with milk. Until spring, the cubs, like the she-bear, remain in the den and practically do not grow due to the small amount of food. Only covered with a denser coat.

Badgers and raccoons also hibernate in their burrows. Moreover, their body temperature, like that of bears, is significantly reduced due to a slowdown in the course of life processes. Most rodents also sleep in their burrows: beavers, chipmunks, mice, marmots, ground squirrels and others. But the latter's sleep is intermittent - they wake up to eat food stored for the winter, which is hidden right in the burrow.

Squirrels overwinter in their nests, which are arranged in tree hollows or on branching branches. Moreover, the nest, as a rule, has two entrances in case of intruders. Even in winter, the squirrel often leaves the nest to feed itself on the stocks of nuts hidden over the summer, which it piles at the roots of trees or in a hollow.

Well, as you know, the wolf, hare and fox in the forest are fed by their feet. The fox runs in search of holes with rodents, the hare looks for roots, frozen berries, grass or thin twigs of bushes. Well, the wolf runs several tens of kilometers a day in search of food - wild boars, hares and other animals. The hare and the fox also have holes, and female wolves have a den only for breeding offspring, closer to spring. In winter, wolves tend to gather in packs to allow them to survive better.
