Goliath lives up to its name - it does not occur in nature larger than this frog. It is believed that in favorable conditions, its weight can reach almost 6 kg. Goliath looks like a common toad, only increased in size. Goliath females are slightly larger than males. The skin on the back and head of the frog is brown-green, the tummy and legs are yellowish or cream-colored. Its paws are quite large, can reach the size of an adult's palm.
The largest goliath frog that lives only in the waters of Cameroon is not adapted to survive in artificially created conditions. The frog has huge eyes, up to 2, 3 cm in diameter. The frog's vision serves as a defense. At a distance of almost 45 meters, the frog notices the movement of any living organism. In case of danger, it hides under the water and only when it emerges and looks around, it appears completely above the water. The amphibian has a high sense of self-preservation, but it does not help against human cunning.
Goliath is on the brink of extinction. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has awarded it the status of EN (Endangered), that is, an endangered species.
In addition to being constantly threatened by people, she cannot live in dirty water bodies or swamps, like Russian frogs. The temperature regime and the aquatic environment with a high oxygen content are the main conditions for the life of this individual. High humidity and a temperature of at least 22 ° C are what she needs.
It feeds on insects, but does not disdain small rodents. Spiders, crustaceans, frogs are the usual diet of the goliath. Seizes large prey, squeezes and swallows whole.
It reproduces during drought, lays eggs in huge numbers - more than 10,000 thousand, of which tadpoles appear in a month and a half. The tadpole's tail falls off when its size reaches 5 centimeters.
The population of Cameroon is actively exterminating the goliath frog for its valuable meat. A hunter can get about $ 5 for one carcass of an animal.

The goliath frog is the most silent of all frogs on earth. If the rest are distinguished by a rather loud voice, then the goliath makes a muffled whistling sound. This is due to the fact that the frog lacks a voice sac. Even the protection of the male's own territory proceeds quietly - they only inflate the bags on their cheeks and emit a creak when in contact with water while moving and attacking a stranger.
