Parrot Rosella: breed features

Rosella is a parrot that is native to Australia. But because of the bright color, the birds have become very popular in Russia. In terms of appearance, they have a long, stepped tail with central feathers. Typically, the head, neck and chest of a rosella are red, the belly is yellow, and the sides and edges of the tail are blue.

These parrots have a very peculiar flight. They flap their wings at incredible speed, but their movement cannot be called very fast. Young individuals differ from adults in less bright color.

How should you choose a rosella?

If you have already decided to become the owner of this Australian parrot, you need to make the right choice. Inspect the bird's plumage carefully before purchasing. It should be neat enough and without any bald spots. Otherwise, you run the risk of acquiring a sick parrot that will not live long.

An important factor when choosing is the behavior of the bird. Rosella parrots are usually very active and cheerful. So, passive behavior and a dull look should alert you. As for the cost, it strongly depends on the beauty of the plumage. But you need to know that the average cost of a rosella does not exceed 4800 rubles.

Maintenance and care

It should be borne in mind that Rosellas do not tolerate dampness at all. This means that they must be kept in rooms with a relative humidity of 50 to 70%. The optimum temperature range is 20-22 ° C. Also, the premises should be periodically well ventilated.

When choosing a cage, it is better to give preference to the large version with a pull-out tray. In general, it is better to keep rosells in enclosures, but the space does not always allow this. River sand or bedding should be poured into the cage pan. By the way, the rods of the cage should in no case be painted with lead paints. Lead is a bird poison.

Be sure to install even perches made from birch or beech twigs into the cage or aviary. They should be secured in such a way that the sitting parrots do not touch the bars with their tail. Place a feeder, drinker, and bathing trough in the cage. The size of the swimsuit should be 20 cm in diameter. The water in the container should be changed regularly. As it becomes dirty, the cage should be thoroughly cleaned and the functional containers rinsed with hot water.

Proper feeding of rosellas

Roselle should be fed with a grain mixture for medium sized parrots. Try to use vegetables, fruits and fresh herbs as complementary feed. Do not neglect the periodic inclusion of chopped chicken eggs and cottage cheese in the diet. Eggshells contain calcium, which is very useful for parrots.

Roselles should eat at least two tablespoons of grain a day. Sometimes it can be given soaked.
