The Caucasian Shepherd Dog breed appeared in the USSR. These dogs are devoted human defenders. The excellent performance of the representatives of the breed makes it possible to use them as assistants even in the most severe climatic conditions.

Step 1
In general, the Caucasian Shepherd Dog is a large, muscular dog with thick hair. The head of the animal is large and massive, the zygomatic arches are wide. Seen from above, it resembles a blunt wedge with a wide base.
Step 2
The skull is also massive and wide, the forehead is flat and with a longitudinal groove. There are pronounced superciliary arches, the occipital protuberance does not protrude.
Step 3
The transition from the forehead to the muzzle is expressed smoothly. The muzzle is wide and deep, tapering from the bridge of the nose to the nose. The jaws are massive, there are prominent chewing muscles.
Step 4
The nose is black and does not protrude beyond the general contour of the muzzle. The lips are thick, with abundant pigmentation. The bite of the Caucasian Shepherd Dog is scissor or straight.
Step 5
The eyes are small, oval and shallow. They are located widely and obliquely. Dark to hazel eye color is acceptable.
Step 6
The auricle is small and thick and has the shape of a triangle. Its inner part fits snugly to the skull, and sagging is observed in the cartilage area. According to the traditions in the country of origin of the breed, ears are supposed to be cropped.

The neck of the Caucasian Shepherd Dogs is of medium length, very powerful, with a pronounced nape. The body is broad and muscular.
Step 8
The back of the animal is straight, wide and strong. The loin is short, slightly arched. The croup is wide and rounded, with a slight slope towards the base of the tail.

A well-developed chest, consisting of rounded ribs. The abdomen is moderately tucked up. The tail is in the shape of a sickle or ring, in a state of excitement, it rises above the back line.
Step 10
The forelegs are well muscled, set wide apart and parallel to each other. The humerus is pressed against the ribcage, the shoulder girdle is well developed and muscular.
Step 11
The hind legs are straight and also parallel to each other. The angulation of the knee and hock is moderate. The thighs and legs of the Caucasian Shepherd Dog are broad and muscular.
Step 12
The skin of these dogs is thick and without folds, not devoid of elasticity. The hair is coarse and straight, the undercoat is abundant. The length of the coat is not less than 5 cm, in the area of the head and in front of the limbs, the hair is shorter and denser.
Step 13
Various colors are allowed: solid, piebald, spotted. All shades are also acceptable. The exception is solid black color.
Step 14
The height at the withers for males ranges from 72 to 75 cm, for bitches - from 67 to 70 cm. The weight for males should be at least 50 kg, for females - 45 kg. Representatives of this breed have a visually pronounced gender, males are much larger and more massive than females.
