Most often, laying hens are susceptible to diseases such as coccidiosis, ascoridosis and tuberculosis. The most common causes of pet health problems are poor grooming and inappropriate feeding.
Coccidiosis
The causative agents of coccidiosis are considered to be the simplest parasites of coccidia, of which there are 9 species in nature. The spread of this disease is rats, mice, as well as wild and domestic birds. Infection of chickens occurs when they eat food in which the parasite lives.
The fact that a bird is infected with coccidiosis can be judged by its behavior. Sick birds, as a rule, move with lowered wings, eat very little and are constantly in search of a sunny place. Having found such a place, the chickens, crumpled, are there throughout the day. This disease progresses relatively slowly, however, if the birds are not treated, in the end it can lead to complete paralysis of the wings and legs.
The most effective drugs for the treatment of coccidiosis are coccidovit, avatek and sakox. Based on the fact that these drugs are most effective in combination with antibiotics, treatment of chickens should be carried out only under the supervision of an experienced veterinarian.
In order to protect birds from coccidiosis, first of all, you should take care of the cleanliness of the poultry house, as well as equipment, drinkers and feed containers. It is important to ensure that there are no rodents in the courtyard, since it is these animals that are the main carriers of the infection.
Ascoridosis
Ascoridosis is most common in chickens or young chickens. The spread of the disease is a large nematode parasite, which, after entering the bird's body with food, settles in its intestines. Symptoms of ascoridosis are a decrease in appetite, the appearance of lethargy in movements, a significant slowdown in growth. Chickens infected with this disease, as a rule, are carried very rarely.
Ascoridosis in chickens is treated with a piperazine solution - 0.25 g per liter of water, for an adult bird - 0.5 g for the same amount of water. The best prevention of disease is to keep the house, drinkers and feeders clean.
Tuberculosis
Unlike coccidiosis and ascoridosis, tuberculosis is an almost incurable disease that is very difficult to diagnose in its early stages. When the main signs of the disease appear (lesions of the skin and oral mucosa, as well as the development of tumors on the joints), the disease is no longer amenable to treatment.
Tuberculosis is dangerous for people, so a sick bird should be immediately killed and the corpse burned. In no case should the meat of chicken infected with tuberculosis be eaten.
