Usher cats are amazingly cute and adorable creatures. They become attached to their owners and are not much different from ordinary domestic cats. Only they are many times more expensive. However, Usher's cats are a real secret, because not everyone agrees that such animals exist at all.
History of the breed
In 2007, employees of the biotech company Lifestyle Pets announced that they had developed a fundamentally new breed by crossing a common domestic cat, an African serval and an Asian Bengal cat. The hybrid was named Usher's cat. Lifestyle Pets claimed that such cats can reach 1 meter in length and gain weight up to 14 kilograms, while remaining slim and graceful. However, cat lovers around the world had doubts. The kittens were bled, DNA tested and it turned out that the Usher cat is actually nothing more than the most common Savannah cat, which was bred back in the 1980s. Savannah is also a hybrid. First, an ordinary domestic cat was crossed with a wild Bengal cat, having received a domestic Bengal cat, and then offspring were bred from her and the African Serval.
The breeder of the Savannah cats in Pensionalniy was Chris Shirk, who, in the photographs provided by Lifestyle Pets, recognized the breed that he devoted most of his life to. It turned out that a Lifestyle Pets employee simply bought some kittens from Shirk and then passed them off as a new breed. An investigation and a series of DNA tests have begun. The results fully confirmed that the biotech company was fraudulent.
Despite the fact that the Usher cat turned out to be a fiction, there are still a lot of photos and videos of these animals on the Internet - all these are Savannah cats. Such a kitten costs from 400,000 rubles.
Features of the cat of asher (savannah)
These cats are very calm, peaceful, get along well with other pets. Many people are attracted to the savannahs because they get along well with children and allow them to do almost anything with them. This breed has strong immunity. You can buy an Usher kitten at the age of at least 7 months. As a rule, you have to wait at least six months for your turn at breeders to come. If the kittens are taught to be on a leash, then you can walk with them in the park, shocking those around them with a “tame little leopard”.
In the wild, the ancestors of Savannah cats ate rodents, hares, lizards, and therefore it is advisable for them to adhere to a meat diet at home. Small animals can be replaced with raw or cooked meat by adding some fish and vegetables. The diet should be varied and complete, which will inevitably entail certain costs. Natural food can be substituted for canned food or premium mousses designed specifically for large breed cats. If this does not scare you, you can start looking for a kitten.

Finding a real savannah is not easy. It cannot be bought at a pet store, bird market, or by ad. Fraud is not uncommon. Sometimes criminals offer a real usher cat from a foreign cattery practically for free. You just need to pay for the paperwork and air travel of the animal. When the future owner transfers the specified amount, the cat is allegedly sent, but detained at customs. Fraudsters get in touch again and demand money, promising to resolve the issue of transportation in a maximum of a couple of days. After that, they disappear without a trace.
Those who wish to purchase a large and affectionate Savannah cat have to look through hundreds, and sometimes thousands of sites on the Internet to go to the official page of the cattery, where such animals are bred. The fact is that most of the sites about savannas are informational. Their owners, making profit from advertising, often have never seen such cats.
When you have found a suitable nursery, do not be too lazy to call there, ask how long it has existed, if there are all the necessary documents. Try to check all the information received by phone. When you come to the cattery for the first time, do not rush to choose a kitten right away. First, take a closer look at all the animals in their usual conditions, observe the kittens' parents. It is possible that you will not want to see so many large and strong animals next to you in the next 15-20 years.
As a rule, there is a queue for savannah kittens. The nursery will write down your coordinates, take a deposit (not in all cases) and send you home to languish in anticipation. While waiting for your turn, prepare everything you need for the pet to come to the house, and also study the breed standards. In some catteries, large domestic cats of a leopard color are passed off as savannah kittens, however, by external signs, a "fake" can almost always be distinguished.
Once the eligible savannah kitten reaches the sale age, you will be invited. When you take a regular kitten into the house, it is recommended to show it to the veterinarian. In catteries of all cats from the moment of birth are under the supervision of a specialist. Chances are, if the savannah kitten looks healthy, then it is. However, after the purchase, agree with the veterinarian about the observation and vaccination of your pet, or find out the address of a specialist who, if necessary, can provide this service.
