The Serval, a wildcat from Africa, has become widely known for its character. It turned out that she is friendly, has a cheerful disposition, which allows you to tame such cats without additional selection. However, do not forget that servals are wild felines.
The most important feature of servals is their appearance: among felines, they have the largest ears and longest legs in relation to the size of the head and body, which makes them look like a lynx or a cheetah.
Servals resemble leopards in color, but the muzzle, chest and belly are white, and the ears are black. You can also find black servals. They grow in size impressive for a cat: up to 65 cm in height and up to 130 cm in length, not counting the tail. Adult servals can weigh up to 18 kg.
Servals live mainly in South Africa. In the western part, there are much fewer of them, since it is densely populated with people. In addition, servals are shot because of attacks on poultry or for the sake of a beautiful skin, which led to the inclusion of this species in the Red Book.
Servals are loners and predators by nature. One individual can eat more than a kilogram of meat per day. They hunt mainly in the early morning or evening, during twilight. In the midst of a hot day, servals love to swim.
Reproduction of servals does not depend on the season. Usually the male and the female spend several days together: they live, hunt until the female becomes pregnant, then the male leaves her. The female bears offspring for 65-75 days, and the number of kittens usually does not exceed 2-3. A year later, the males leave the mother, while the females leave the mother a little later.
