The common hedgehog, living in the forests of the middle zone of the European part of Russia, is well known to everyone from childhood as a cute folklore character. Therefore, in relation to the hedgehog, his lifestyle, habits and nutrition, a certain stereotype has developed, which does not coincide in everything with reality.

Step 1
Consider eating a hedgehog in such a way that with a weight of 500-700 grams, he consumes about 100 grams of food per day. Food for a hedgehog should contain a lot of calcium, protein and little fat, since hedgehogs are prone to obesity, and this is dangerous for them.
Step 2
Feed the animal with special food for hedgehogs, but if you cannot get it, then it is quite possible to choose a diet from readily available products. You can establish contacts with suppliers of crickets, beetles, cockroaches for a hedgehog. You can also feed the hedgehog with mice: at home, the average common hedgehog will have enough one adult mouse for the whole day.
Step 3
Replace insects in the hedgehog's diet with meat if you cannot overcome disgust (many people are disgusted even to look at insects) or cannot get enough of them.
Step 4
Take a piece of beef without fat, veal, rabbit mince. In no case add spices, salt, onions. You can use chicken or turkey breast.
Step 5
Give the hedgehog 1 tablespoon of meat at a time, mince or cut into very small pieces. Some fruits or berries and nuts are good for hedgehogs. Once a week, you can offer the hedgehog some new food (for example, minced rabbit instead of beef).
Step 6
Spoil a young hedgehog with a quail egg once a week, make a hole in the shell before giving the egg to the hedgehog.
Step 7
Eliminate frozen or cold food, pork, sausages, fish and fish products, canned food, sausage, any food with sugar (sweets, cakes, compotes, jelly, etc.), chicken eggs, milk and dairy products from the hedgehog's diet, because hedgehogs practically do not have enzymes that digest lactose (only pregnant females are recommended to goat's milk in a very small amount). And also categorically do not feed the hedgehogs salty, fried, sour, fatty and sweet foods.
Step 8
Do not feed snails and slugs to hedgehogs. Despite the fact that in nature hedgehogs eat them with pleasure, snails and slugs in their natural habitat are often infested with parasites. There is a danger that the hedgehog will also become infected.
