It so happened that a new inhabitant has appeared in your house - a little doggie. Funny and funny, from the first days he trustingly rubs against your leg, bites your hand slightly if he demands something, and hilariously plays with the children. You found it on the street and picked it up out of the kindness of your heart? Or has he nailed to your country house? Or they brought children with guilty faces: "Mom, Dad, can we take a puppy?" It doesn't matter - the main thing: he is now yours. How to take care of a four-legged foundling?
If you already have other animals in your house, then you should not immediately introduce the puppy to them. It is unknown how he will react. In addition, he may be sick. It is better to keep him for two or three weeks in a separate room, until he gets stronger, gets used to you, and until you are sure that the dog is healthy.
Of course, it is better to take the dog to the vet first. He will examine him, prescribe the necessary vaccinations and treatment in case of illness, and even issue a real dog passport. And, of course, he will determine the breed of the puppy.
But before you take the foundling to the veterinarian, you can examine him yourself. Examine carefully for lichen, look into your ears. If there is a concern that the dog is suffering from some kind of skin disease, touch it only with gloves.
Measure the temperature. To do this, insert a thermometer a couple of centimeters into the anus of the animal and hold it there for 3-4 minutes. The temperature should not exceed 39 degrees Celsius. A healthy dog's nose should be cold and damp.
Treat the animal with flea control. It is better to use drops or spray. Fortunately, such a medicine is inexpensive and is available in any pet store.
Even if your dog is very dirty, you shouldn't bathe him. Firstly, bathing is a great stress for him, and secondly, he may have a cold, and bathing will become fatal for him. Better to clean it from dirt with a damp cloth or brush. Clean the eyes with a cotton swab.
Give the puppy an anthelmintic, such as pratel, drontal, caniquantel, twice at ten-day intervals. This is very important, since many worms take root well in the human body, and it is more difficult to expel them from there.
From the first days, train your puppy to the toilet. Of course, a foundling cannot go "on business" at a certain hour. So take him for a walk or sit on a newspaper right after every meal. You will need a lot of patience to get him to order. Praise for every successful "business" done, you can give goodies or a toy.
Make a list of what you will need: collar, leash, couch, wool brush, towel, bowls for food and drink. It is better to take a collar or harness for growth. How large the dog will be can be determined by eye by its paws. The thicker and more powerful they are, the more your pet will grow. Choose bowls wisely: it is better not to take plastic bowls, puppies love to chew on them. Ceramic bowls are the best option - they are the hardest to turn over.
Come up with a name. If your street gavroche is old enough, he might have a nickname. Place the cub in front of you and use the most common dog names. With one of them, the doggie can liven up and move its tail. So, he was called something like that - choose a similar nickname.
