Rabies is a dangerous viral disease that is transmitted through saliva when bitten by sick animals. Rabies is quite common among dogs. They are infected, as a rule, from wild animals or from their relatives-carriers. The incubation period lasts 3-6 weeks, after which the disease begins to manifest itself.
Instructions
Step 1
Distinguish between violent and quiet manifestations of the disease. In the first case, the behavior of the animal undergoes significant changes. The dog becomes lethargic and apathetic, his appetite disappears. The animal refuses to obey commands, seeks to hide in a quiet place protected from light.
Step 2
Sometimes a sick dog becomes compulsively affectionate. She persistently seeks the attention of the owner, licks his face and hands (which is extremely dangerous, since if saliva gets on damaged skin, infection can occur). Then this behavior is replaced by anxiety: the animal becomes anxious, constantly barks, listens to something, gets scared.
Step 3
The dog's eating habits also change. Along with refusal to eat, the pet can swallow inedible items. A characteristic symptom of rabies is spasms of the pharyngeal muscles, which make the animal unable to swallow water.
Step 4
In the future, a mad dog begins to show aggression towards people (including the owner), as well as towards other animals. At this time, the dog is actively salivating, and the barking becomes hoarse and turns into a howl. Rage is replaced by apathy when an exhausted animal lies motionless.
Step 5
At the last stage, the lower jaw does not close in the animal, paralysis develops first of the hind limbs, and then of the whole body. As a result, it paralyzes the heart and respiratory system, and the animal dies.
Step 6
In a quiet form of rabies, the dog does not show aggression. She becomes affectionate, does not leave the owner, seeks to lick him. Then the disease also turns into paralysis. Also, the symptoms of rabies can be atypical, manifested in the form of vomiting or bloody diarrhea.
