Many people know that almost all cats avoid direct contact with water. This instinctive fear dates back to the time when animals lived in the wild. But what to do if your beloved pet gets dirty, smells unpleasant and urgently needs to be bathed? It is possible to carry out water procedures subject to certain rules.
Instructions
Step 1
The animal should not be afraid of the noise of the water. To do this, regularly carry the cat in your arms into the bath and open the water for a short time so that the animal can see and hear everything that is happening. The more often this happens, the better. If your pet is straining, you do not need to hold it with force, release it, but after a while, repeat the procedure of being in the bathroom. The cat should be reassured by stroking the head, thereby letting him know that she is under protection. If the first point is passed successfully, the next step will be the acquaintance of the animal with the bath.
Step 2
Place the cat in an empty, dry bath. Most likely, she will want to run away, try to restrain this impulse by lightly stroking and calming the pet. You should not hold and try to wet the paws and fur with force, this will only frighten the pet more. For maximum comfort, place a towel or rubber mat on the bottom of the tub or basin.
Step 3
Cats do not like bright light, so you should take care of dim lighting for the bathroom in advance, this will help to more comfortably adapt the animal.
Step 4
It should be understood that it is much more difficult to accustom an adult animal to water than a kitten. Therefore, there is no need to waste time, and if you have purchased a fluffy baby, regularly wash the paws once a week. This procedure will become familiar in a few weeks, and in the future, the cat will not be afraid of water.
Step 5
Do not try to tie the animal, thereby trying to redeem it by force, in case of panic, the cat can seriously harm itself. To protect your hands from scratches the first time the cat is not yet used to the water, you can wear rubber gloves. When bathing, use a soft sponge and wool brushes. Use only specialized shampoo purchased from a pet store. Do not use the shower under any circumstances - it can scare the cat. It is best to rinse the lather off the coat using a small container.
Step 6
During bathing, all animal hair, with the exception of the muzzle and ears, should be wet. After bathing, wrap the cat in a soft bath towel and wait for it to slightly absorb the water. After light drying, you can begin to lightly comb the coat with a comb with large rounded teeth.
