Step 1
All wild birds are conventionally divided into two groups: sedentary and migratory. You can notice that the sedentary remain for the winter in their usual habitat, and migrants, with the onset of cold weather, go south. What birds are considered migratory?

Migratory birds regularly move between nesting sites and wintering sites. Moreover, birds can fly both over short distances, and on rather distant ones, which are thousands of kilometers from their habitat. The smaller the size of the bird, the shorter the distance it is able to master at a time, although even the smallest birds can fly without stopping for 70-90 hours, covering a distance of up to 4000 km.

You cannot unambiguously classify some species of birds as sedentary or migratory. The point is that there are differences in the behavior of different populations of the same species and birds of the same population. For example, the wren, which lives in Europe and the circumpolar Commander and Aleutian Islands, lives sedentary, but the Canadian and North American representative wanders for short distances. And the wren, which has chosen as its permanent habitat the north-west of Russia, Scandinavia and the Far East, with the arrival of cold weather goes to the south.

The starling is the first to mark the onset of spring and return to its usual habitat. It is known about 12 species of these birds that fly for wintering in Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Yugoslavia, Turkey, India and Pakistan. However, an ordinary starling, or as it is also called a blue jay, can move to the south in the same territory in winter, or it can live settled, therefore it cannot be definitely attributed to migratory birds.

Rooks return to their lands almost simultaneously with the starlings. You also cannot attribute this bird from the raven genus to migratory, since the rook is considered to be sedentary in the southern part of Eurasia, and migratory in the northern part. Swallows are considered migratory birds. They fly over the winter to Africa, Indonesia and South America. At the end of March, you may notice the appearance of finches, and by the end of April, blackbirds. In the first half of May, the nightingale can tell about its return. This bird is known for its enchanting singing, which can be enjoyed all day long, as well as from dawn until morning.

Migratory birds include lapwings, wagtails, robins, redstarts, orioles, forest pipits, chiffchaffs. Most migratory birds leave us in flocks, but there are those that fly alone or in small groups. The wedge-shaped cranes are flying very beautifully. The ravens form an ordinary chain. In some representatives of birds, the young “breaks down” ahead of time, and in some, males catch up with females that have flown ahead. Most importantly, they always return to herald the arrival of spring.
