Just like human babies, kittens are born toothless. Soon they develop milk teeth, which, in turn, after a while will be replaced by permanent ones.
Instructions
Step 1
Please note that kittens acquire their first baby teeth already at two weeks of age. They are sharp as needles and babies can injure their mother cat while feeding. If you notice a bite mark on one of her nipples, treat it with an antiseptic. At 8-12 weeks, a kitten usually already acquires a full set of 26 milk teeth.
Step 2
Don't miss the moment when the kitten's milk teeth begin to change into permanent ones. This usually occurs when the animals reach three months of age, plus or minus a few days. The incisors are the first to change, then the canines and finally the molars and premolars. Usually, the change of teeth is completely completed when the animal is 7 months old.
Step 3
Provide the kitten with a complete diet high in calcium and phosphorus for the entire period of changing milk teeth to permanent ones. This will saturate his body with everything necessary for rapid growth and normal development, as well as make the teeth of the animal healthy and strong. If the baby eats worse than usual during this period, but otherwise remains vigorous and cheerful, then do not worry - at the stage of changing teeth this is normal.
Step 4
Keep in mind that as kittens change their teeth, they begin to gnaw on everything that comes into their eyes. Put away clothes and shoes in closets, hide all valuables from animals, and also keep them away from wires. In the pet store you can buy special toys, gnawing on which, the kitten loosens milk teeth and at the same time accelerates the eruption of the permanent ones. In no case during the game do not allow the kitten to bite your hands, because in the future it will be very, very difficult, if not impossible, to wean him from this seemingly harmless habit.
Step 5
Control how the kitten's teeth change. Usually, there are no problems with this, but in isolated cases, inflammation of the gums in the animal and the appearance of pus from the wound and an unpleasant odor from the cat's mouth are possible. This means that the wound has been infected. If you experience these symptoms, contact your veterinarian; the veterinarian may decide to remove one or more milk teeth in order to speed up the process of permanent teeth.
